Requirements
Prefer candidate with current TCOLE Police Officers License or currently enrolled in a Basic Police Officer Course. Must be a United States citizen and at least 21 years of age or 20 years of age if currently enrolled in a basic peace officer course.
Candidates must meet at least ONE of the following requirements:
- TCOLE Certified; or
- Enrolled in a TCOLE accredited Basic Peace Officer Course; or
- 3 years of Active Duty in the U.S. Armed Forces with an Honorable Discharge; or
- Possess 30 accredited college hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.3 (to be hired as a Cadet)
All candidates must have a valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with an acceptable driving record. All candidates must have the ability to successfully pass a physical fitness test, written entry test, oral review board, polygraph examination, psychological screening, functional capacity test, and drug screen.
Physical Fitness Test Information
The physical fitness test measures an underlying physical factor or "ability" that determines the capability to perform strenuous job tasks.
All applicants are required to complete a 2000-meter row on the Concept2 Rower at a minimum of 50% per the current Texas DPS standard. This is the calculation that will be used for scoring. Please refer to the website for the Texas DPS Fitness Wellness Unit for additional information.
All applicants are required to wear appropriate clothing (t-shirts/shorts/sneakers are all acceptable) for the physical fitness test. If you have any questions please contact Officer Brenda Cox.
